Beware of Banshees
Rats and Daggers presents Beware of Banshees: een avond vol stomende punk, keiharde stoner rock, knallende riot pop en dronende post punk, met een twist. Een nieuwe norm wat betreft gender diversiteit op het podium om de rauwe, pure en luide energie van vrouwen, trans en gender-queer personen op podium te vieren. Acts die zullen spelen zijn Get Jealous, Rats and Daggers, Library Card, Velveteen Rabbit, Koko Kelly, Black Monsoon en Ioana Iorgu. Daarnaast zal er een expo van Daantje Bons tentoongesteld worden.
Deze tweede editie van Beware of Banshees vindt plaats in en in samenwerking met de Nijverheid, de culturele vrijplaats van Utrecht. Daarnaast wordt de opbrengst na 150 tickets gedoneerd aan het initiatief Women skate the world gedoneerd, die zich inzet voor de empowerment van meisjes, trans, non-binary and gender non-conforme skateboarders in Nederland (tevens ook Palestina, Griekenland en Iraaks Kurdistan). Koop tijdens het event tevens ook loten om een groepsles van 5 bij Skatepark Utrecht (voor alle leeftijden) te winnen. De opbrengst hiervan wordt gedoneerd.

Iedereen heeft een mening over Get Jealous. Of je ze nou pop, punk, lief, hard, wild, vrolijk of veel te serieus vindt: Get Jealous zorgt ervoor dat je luistert. Zelfs als je denkt dat je niet van Punk houdt.
Een POWERTRIO dat de vlijmscherpe rand tussen heavy en punk op zoekt. Rats and Daggers concentreert de slagkracht van IDLES, de schwung van QOTSA en de schijt-aan-alles attitude van Amyl and The Sniffers tot rappe punkrockprojectielen die de moshpits ter plekke doen aanzwellen. Live zijn zij zowel ontwapenend als exceptioneel expressief en spelen zij met een energie die zo oprecht uit de tenen komt dat zij in een vlammende set ieder een momentele zo nodige toevlucht bieden uit hun dagelijkse sleur.
In 2022 speelde ze op Booster en Valkhof festival and speelden ze support van LIFE en Sprints. Ze brachten hun debut EP RATS and DAGGERS uit op vinyl met Lay Bare Recordings en speelden 21 Popronde shows als een NMTH talent, inclusief het legendarische eindfeest in de Melkweg Oude Zaal.
In the summer of 2021, Library Card originated from the close-knit Rotterdam music scene. While writing their first few songs to a drum machine, Lot van Teylingen, Mitchell Quitz and Kat Kalkman found common ground within their love for expressive and thoughtful music. Soon after, the band recruited Emre Karayalçin whose unorthodox and articulate rhythms completed Library Card’s sound.
Velveteen Rabbit
Velveteen Rabbit is een female fronted viertal uit Utrecht. Ze schotelen je een mix van snelle hardcore punk en loodzware grunge voor. Tel daar de vocalen van de frontvrouw bij op, soms luid en krankzinnig, soms gevoelig en breekbaar. Alsof het liefdeskind van Bad Brains en PJ Harvey een nacht doorhaalt met David Lynch, waarop ze verboden herinneringen en lucide dromen samensmelten. Verknipt? Wellicht. Empowering? Absoluut.
Recentelijk kwamen ze met de nieuwe single “My Stitches Itch”. De song is een vooruitblik op de debuut EP die in maart verschijnt.
Ioana Iorgu is een onafhankelijke muziekproducent, autodidactische gitarist en drummer gevestigd in Groningen. Ioana graaft haar nagels in je huid met de verontrustende maar boeiende sfeer die ze creëert met dissonante post-punk gitaren die je middenrif doet klapperen, en gortdroge beklijvende drums die direct contrasteren met de zacht gesproken kille teksten. Live, griezelige visuals begeleiden de onmiskenbare aanwezigheid op het podium van haar en Peter Kostwinder op drums met wie ze een duo vormde, terwijl de geluiden van haar onlangs uitgebrachte album ‘Mean Time’ weergalmen in de zalen. Ioana Iorgu zal een tijdje in je hoofd ronddwalen, gewoon om er zeker van te zijn dat het goed met je gaat.
ondersteund door vervreemdende gitaarpartijen in onmogelijke stemmingen, solo’s met
boormachines on stage, bloed, zweet en tranen en de beukende drums van Marjolijn Dokter.
Deze tropische jock maakt al jarenlang reuring in clubs en festivals met haar unieke blend van global dance music, bass, en hiphop. Tijdens de changeovers in de loods laat Koko de hele zaal schuren op de barrage aan grooves en dikke drumpartijen die ze door de speakers knalt.

Rats and Daggers presents Beware of Banshees: a night filled with steaming punk, loud af stoner rock, banging riot pop and droney post punk, with a twist. A new norm for gender diversiteit on stage to celebrate the raw, pure and loud energy of women, trans and gender-queer persons. Acts that will play during the night are Get Jealous, Rats and Daggers, Library Card, Velveteen Rabbit, Koko Kelly, Black Monsoon and Ioana Iorgu. Additionally there will be an expo by Daantje Bons.
This second edition of Beware of Banshees takes place in and by working together with de Nijverheid, the cultural refuge of Utrecht. A part of the profits will be donated to the initiative Women skate the world. They work on empowering girls, trans, and gender-queer young skateboarders in the Netherlands (but also Palestina, Greece and Iraqi Kurdistan). Additionally, you can buy lottery tickets during the event to win a group lesson for 5 people (for all ages) at Skatepark Utrecht. All profits thereof will also be donated.

Rats and Daggers
A POWERTRIO in search of the razor-sharp edge between heavy and punk. Rats and Daggers focuses the intention of IDLES, the schwung of QOTSA and the fuck-it-all attitude of Amyl and The Sniffers into flying punkrock projectiles that awaken moshpits instantaneously. Live they are both disarming and exceptionally expressive whilst they play energetic, sincere punk straight from the tips of their toes. Sure to stir everyone in the room and offer them a moment of temporary escape.

Library Card
With their first release Mirror Factory, the band clearly illustrated its ability to create captivating universes which perfectly encapsulate Van Teylingen’s impactful and emotional storytelling. On the 19th of October the band will release the live-session of their hostile and menacing song Residual Heat. The session, shot in an empty office building, shows the band engulfing every nook and cranny with their sonic intensity.
Velveteen Rabbit
Velveteen Rabbit is a female fronted foursome from Utrecht. They’ll serve you up a mix of fast hardcore punk and heavy grunge. Add the vocals of their front and it becomes loud and demented, sometimes sensitive and fragile. As if the lovechild of Bad Brains and PJ Harvey spent the night with David Lynch, melting forbidden memories and lucid dreams. Twisted? Probably. Empowering? Absolutely.
Recently they released their new single “My Stitches Itch”. Their debut EP will follow in March.
Ioana Iorgu
Ioana Iorgu is an independent music producer, a self-taught guitarist and drummer based in Groningen. Ioana digs her nails into your skin with the unsettling yet absorbing atmosphere she creates with dissonant post-punk guitars that make your diaphragm flap, and bone-dry haunting drums that directly contrast the softly spoken cold lyrics. Live, creepy visuals accompany the unmistakable stage presence of hers and Peter Kostwinder on drums whom she formed a duo with, as the sounds of her recently released album ‘Mean Time’ reverberate in the halls. Ioana Iorgu will stroll in your head for some time, just to make sure you’re alright.
Black Monsoon
If PJ Harvey, Kurt Cobain, and Sonic Youth had a love baby, it might have been named Black Monsoon. Dutch rockers Black Monsoon blend their personal picks from highlights of nineties grunge and alternative rock into their own style of going against the grain. Driven by catchy guitar riffs and the pounding drums of Marjolijn Dokter, the melancholic vocals of frontwoman Jacky Kwast and frontman Teun Guichelaar embrace each other to find comfort. On stage, the alt-rockers express their personal blood, sweat and tears by alienating melodies, unusual guitar tunings and drill-machine solos.
Koko Kelly
This tropical jock has been making waves with her unique blend of global dance music, bass and hiphop in clubs and festivals for years. During the changeovers in the barrack, Koko will make the whole room shake on the barrage of grooves and fat drums, blasting them through our speakers.
