Een unieke nieuwe reeks Ierse traditionele muzieksessies gaat van start bij de Nijverheid. De serie brengt uitzonderlijke muzikanten naar Utrecht en creëert een warme, sessie-achtige sfeer die draait om delen en samen muziek maken. Geïnspireerd door open Ierse pubsessies worden deze avonden begeleid door hosts, maar blijven ze open voor andere muzikanten die willen meespelen.
Hosts
De reeks wordt gehost en gecureerd door Fiachra Meek, die bij alle edities als hoofdhost zal optreden. In toekomstige evenementen nodigt hij verschillende gastmuzikanten uit om samen met hem op te treden en de sessies te leiden. Deze editie werkt hij samen met Kate O'Shea en Lucia Murphy.
Fiachra Meek
Fiachra Meek is een uilleann piper, zanger en multi-instrumentalist uit Dundalk, Co. Louth, en woont nu in Amsterdam. Hij is medeoprichter van Alfi en toert momenteel wereldwijd als piper met een herenigde bezetting van The Pogues. Met meer dan tien jaar internationale tourervaring, samenwerkingen binnen folk- en traditionele muziek en diepe wortels in de Ierse sessietraditie is Fiachra een actieve performer, docent en muzikale verbinder in Nederland.
Lucia Murphy
Lucia Murphy is een violiste uit Limerick, woont nu in Den Haag en studeert momenteel klassieke viool aan het Koninklijk Conservatorium in Den Haag. Afkomstig uit een familie die diep geworteld is in de Ierse traditionele muziek, heeft zij meerdere All-Ireland titels gewonnen op Fleadh Cheoil na hÉireann. Lucia houdt van het mixen van tradities, improviseren en optreden over verschillende genres heen, en speelt op een Ambrose de Combe-viool, toegekend door het Musical Instrument Fund of Ireland.
Kate O'Shea
Kate O'Shea is een fiddlespeelster uit Ballincollig, Cork, bekend om haar werk in zowel traditionele als cross-genre settings. Ze nam op voor TG4’s Geantraí, trad internationaal op en werkte samen met een brede waaier aan Ierse artiesten. Nu gevestigd in Den Haag rondt Kate een master Klassieke Viool af en blijft ze nauw verbonden met de Ierse sessiescene als performer en docent.

Due to the unexpected, phenomenal success of the first Trad Session in February, we are now extremely proud to present the second edition.
This evening launches a unique new series of Irish traditional music sessions at de Nijverheid, bringing outstanding musicians to Utrecht and creating a welcoming, session-style atmosphere rooted in sharing and collaboration. Inspired by the open Irish pub session, these nights are guided by invited hosts but remain open to other musicians who wish to join in.
The series is hosted and curated by Fiachra Meek, who will act as the main host for all editions. This edition the guest musicians are Lucia Murphy and Kate O'Shea
Fiachra Meek
Fiachra Meek is an uilleann piper, singer, and multi-instrumentalist from Dundalk, Co. Louth, now based in Amsterdam. He is co-founder of Alfi and currently tours worldwide as the piper with a reunited lineup of The Pogues. With over a decade of international touring, collaborations across folk and traditional music, and deep roots in the Irish session tradition, Fiachra is an active performer, teacher, and musical connector in the Netherlands.
Lucia Murphy
Lucia Murphy is a violinist from Limerick, now living in Den Haag, and currently studying classical violin at the Royal Conservatory of The Hague. Coming from a family immersed in Irish traditional music, she has won multiple All-Ireland titles at Fleadh Cheoil na hÉireann. Lucia enjoys blending traditions, improvising, and performing across genres, and plays an Ambrose de Combe violin awarded by the Musical Instrument Fund of Ireland.
Kate O'Shea
Kate O'Shea is a fiddle player from Ballincollig, Cork, known for her work in both traditional and cross-genre settings. She has recorded for TG4's Geantraí, performed internationally, and collaborated with a wide range of Irish artists. Now based in Den Haag, Kate is completing a master's in Classical Violin and remains deeply connected to the Irish session scene as a performer and teacher.
