Erik van der Vliet is a sound technician by profession and also engages in generative and interactive sound installations. In collaboration with the creative collective Dekselse Diodes, he is working on a system to establish connections between movements in soundscapes and light effects in light art installations that are subject to external input data.
For his instrument (the trombone) he is developing an expressive digital signal processing controller to expand its capabilities. With this tech he can control effects such as reverb, delay, chorus and pitch shifting.
On April 8th, Erik will speak about his contribution to the ‘Games in Concert: The Score’ concert series by the @metropoleorkest in collaboration with The Smartphone Orchestra. He’ll also talk about how this school assignment at the Utrecht School of the Arts – Music & Technology, was turned into a successful concert series in Dutch theaters. The focus will be on the design phase, rejected ideas, iterations, handing over the completed school assignment to the members of The Smartphone Orchestra, and his role as a brainstormer and playtester there.
Blender is an informal artist meetup and a free space where diverse artists with various backgrounds can meet to exchange ideas about their work, inspire each other and make new connections.
